Temudžin, drugi sin kana iz malog mongolskog plemena, imao je svega jedanaest godina kada mu je otac ubijen. Njegova je porodica izgnana iz plemena i ostavljena da sama, bez hrane i vode, umre od gladi u surovim mongolskim stepama. Bio je to svirep uvod u život, ali Temudžin je preživeo i naučio da se bori kako protiv prirodnih opasnosti, tako i protiv ljudi koji su ga ugrožavali. Sakupio je ostale izgnanike i stvorio novo pleme. U najcrnjim vremenima javila mu se slika ujedinjenja svih zaraćenih plemena u mongolsku naciju. On će postati kan mora trave – Džingis.
