Diptychs and triptychs
Diptych or diptychon (Greek δίπτυχοξ double folded; in ancient Christians the list of births, baptisms and deaths; picture in two parts; on two boards or canvases; which can be folded) is twice as complex.
A triptych (Greek τρίπτυχος three-layered, of three layers, triple) is a three-part painting in fine art in which three independent compositions or figures are performed on three plates or canvases, which are thematically or ideologically connected.
