Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord is dedicated to the memory of the event of Christ's transfiguration on Mount Tabor when he announces his suffering and glory. The transfiguration of the Lord is also known in Orthodoxy as the summer Epiphany, because even then, as the Gospel writes, the heavens opened up and heard the voice of God the Father - "This is the Son of my love ... listen to him." Jesus, who had been transformed into the mountain in the presence of Moses and the prophet Elijah, announced the heavenly power of a new faith and his role as Caesar over emperors that goes beyond the Old Testament laws and prophets. On the icons of the Transfiguration, which are found on every iconostasis of Orthodox temples, the image of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Mount is surrounded by light, with Elijah, Moses, and the three apostles scared lying on the ground.
The transfiguration of the Lord is one of the most important church holidays. It is celebrated on August 19th (August 6th according to old calendar). This day celebrates the moment when the first divine nature of Christ made visible.
