Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (July 12)
Saint Peter was a Jew, and before he became an apostle of God, Simon was called. He is the first of the disciples of God who expressed a clear faith in the Lord Jesus, saying: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." His love for the Lord was great, and his faith was gradually established. Although, by human weakness, the apostle Peter, three times renounced the Lord, he is sincere in repentance to appreciate that the first of all apostles sees the resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ. After the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, St. Peter, as chief of the apostles was first teacher and preacher. He preached the Gospels in Palestine, Asia Minor, and Italy. He did many miracles, cured the sick, resurrected the dead. Even his shadow healed many patients. Emperor Nero condemned him to death, and crucified him, but upside-down, for he considered it not worthy of the same death as the Lord.
Saint Paul - before the Apostles was called Saul. He came from the tribe of Benjamin, from the city of Tarza. First, he was torturer of Christians, but the Lord chose him in a marvelous way for his disciple of Christian faith. After that, Saul was baptized and became Paul and dedicated himself to the apostolic ministry. With flame, zeal preached the Gospel everywhere from the borders of Arabia to Spain, among the Jews and among the pagans. How terrible his suffering was, so much was his superman's patience. Through all the years of his preaching on the day-to-day hung as one weak thin thread between life and death. Having fulfilled all days and nights by hard work and suffering for Christ, having organized the church in many places, and having attained that measure of perfection, he could say: "I do not live, but Christ lives in me," then he was cut down in Rome, at the time of Emperor Nero, when the apostle Peter was also.
