St. (Great martyr) Dimitri (November 8)
Saint Dimitri is regarded as the protector of the city of Thessaloniki. This city has been miraculously rescued from the invaders many times. The people of Thessaloniki attributed such a sudden God's help to the prayers to St. Dimitri. At a time when the Serbs were pagan they attacked this city with the hope of taking it and plundering it. What happened was that the invaders were defeated by right hand of God and the prayers to St. Dimitri. Such miraculous deliverance in its own way contributed to the entrapping of the faith of the citizens of Thessaloniki and the faith of Saint Dimitri. Saint Dimitri is today a patron of two important cities in Serbia. These are Sremska and Kosovska Mitrovica.
Saint Dimitri is considered Protector of Thessaloniki, because he saved the city from the enemy army; the healer of the sick and the poor. The Russians also celebrate him and consider him the patron and protector of Siberia.
