Saint Panteleimon or Saint Pantelia was born in Nicomedia, from a rich pagan father, Eustorgios, and a Christian mother, Evula. His birth name was Panteleon, which translates as "lion in everything." Later his name was changed to Panteleimon, which has the opposite meaning.
He is considered the patron saint of medicine and pharmacy. The name Panteleimon means all-merciful.
It is invoked in the prayers during the water and food consecration.
The relics of Saint Panteleimon are miraculous and can be found in several Orthodox churches. Parts of the holy relics of this great martyr are in the Hilandar monastery, as well as in three churches in Belgrade: in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Kalemegdan (Ružica Church), then in the Church of the Holy Archangel Gabriel and in the courtyard of the Moscow Patriarchate, i.e. in the Church of the Holy Trinity (the so-called Russian Church ).
