Govor cveća, kao tajni romantični jezik ljubavnika, prvi put se pojavljuje u Turskoj i arapskim zemljama. Кoristile su ga žene iz harema, a u Englesku ga je prenela, 1716, ledi Meri Montegi, ćerka vojvode Кingstona (najozloglašenija žena svog doba na osnovu Enciklopedije britanika). Ona je jezik cveća upoznala dok je, kao supruga ambasadora, živela na dvoru turskog sultana u Istanbulu.

Autorka Кarolina Spelmen, rođena u velikoj kolumbijskoj pororodici. Interesovanje za cveće i mitologiju pokazivala je još od detinjstava, pod uticajem porodice i egzotične kolumbijske flore.
