Gusle - a single-stringed instrument used by the Slavic peoples in the Balkans and in the Dinarides region, often played with a bow and used to accompany epic poems or legends.
Gusle are made of mountain maple. At the top of the gusle is a ibex with twisted horns. On the plaque is the coat of arms of Serbia - a kokarda in a frame, and on the bottom a woodcut of the image of the Holy Archangel Michael.
Gusle have a nylon string, and the bow has a horsetail string, and in that combination the fiddle gives the highest quality sound.

Gusle are lacquered with shellac varnish-natural resin dissolved in alcohol.
