DEVANA is the Slavic goddess of forests, forest animals and hunting. We know her as the "Forest Mother", wild and unrestrained, she is the companion of Veles and with him she gave birth to Yaril, the god of war, anger, but also sexuality and fertility.
She is represented as a strong young girl, maid or virgin, who when necessary takes a sword in her hands and goes to war, while her theriomorphic form is a mare, which is also her sacred animal. She ritually renews her virginity every spring by bathing in the water of a river or lake and is a symbol of female sexual strength and freedom. The holiday dedicated to Devana is "vrbopuc" when, in early spring, people traditionally play dances colored with eroticism in honor of spring and the flourishing of nature.
In Slavic legends, we know her as Vasilisa the Wise who helps her husband Veles overcome numerous challenges.
